Valentine’s Day is dedicated to showering those around you with love and affection. Although this act of appreciation is typically shown through chocolate, conversation hearts and lollipops, these sugar-packed snacks aren’t exactly smile-friendly. So, if your little one wants to show their friends and classmates some love this season, have them opt for one of the below alternatives from a kids’ dentist instead!

#1. Watercolor Paint

This Valentine’s Day, encourage your child to give the gift of creativity! For this fun treat, purchase miniature or full-sized watercolor sets for each member of their class. Next, print out your own custom card that says something fun, like “You make my world colorful!” Attach it with some cute string, have your kiddo sign their name, and this cute, non-candy Valentine’s Day gift idea is complete.

#2. Themed Pencils

Why not give a gift that is both adorable and practical this season? Instead of creating cards around sweet treats and sour candy, purchase some themed pencils that show-off your child’s interests. If your little one loves a specific franchise, like Harry Potter, or is obsessed with a certain color, start there! Of course, if you like the idea of gifting pencils, but aren’t sure of a theme, you can always choose Valentine’s Day colors: red, white, and pink.

#3. Friendship Bracelets

If your child has a few classmates that they are especially close with, then help them make a few friendship bracelets! Although this project may initially seem time-consuming, it can be as simple as braiding colorful yarn together and adding a few fun charms and beads. If you are on a bit of a time crunch, then you can always go to your local store and allow them to pick out something there.

#4. Dried Fruit Slices

If your little one is really set on a snack-based gift, then opt for dried fruit slices. Not only is this a much healthier alternative to traditional sweet treats, but these gifts give you a fun opportunity to include some classic Valentine’s Day puns. For example, you can attach a card that says “Orange you glad you’re my friend” to a pack of orange slices!

The last thing you want is for your Valentine’s Day gifts to lead to tooth decay and cavities. So, stick to the above smile-friendly alternatives this year!
