When should I schedule my child’s first dental visit?
You should schedule your child’s first dental appointment as soon as their first tooth appears and no later than his/her first birthday, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
How often should my child be going to the dentist?
We tell parents to bring their child to the children's dental office for a checkup and cleaning at least twice a year. This helps us prevent common problems like cavities and gum disease. If your child is currently undergoing an orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to come in far more often, typically once every few weeks. This visit is used for a progress check to make sure your child’s teeth are shifting as planned.
When should my child see an orthodontist for the first time?
We recommend complete orthodontic evaluations for children around the time they hit seven years of age. If you notice that your child’s teeth are crooked. Crowded or misaligned before that age, you should schedule an orthodontic appointment sooner. The best way to keep your child’s treatment quick, simple and easy is through early-intervention.
Will my child need to wear a retainer after having braces?
Yes, they will. Teeth will begin to naturally shift back to their crooked position once braces come off, but retainers make sure their teeth stay in their new and healthy position. Typically, your child will need to wear the retainer for 24 hours a day. As time passes, they’ll be able to wear it less and less often.
I think my child might have a cavity. What should I do?
If your child complains of a toothache or you notice dark spots on one of their teeth, it’s time to give our pediatric dental office a call directly. The sooner we can confirm that it’s a cavity and treat it, the easier the overall process will be!
As an adult, do I have to get metal braces to straighten my teeth?
